Year 9 mandatory history

Year 9 history sees the focus of the mandatory History course move from a global view of history and historical issues to that of Australian History, most notably the recent History since the arrival of European settlers in Australian.
THE MODERN WORLD: OVERVIEW
In this unit, students investigate the key social and economic changes of the 18thand 19th century including industrialisation, nationalism, imperialism, militarism and capitalism. Students gain an understanding on how these changes impacted on people and their living and working conditions.
Students gain an understanding about the making of the modern world how this has impacted on the 20th and 21st centuries.

Australia And Asia: Making a Nation
This unit is an investigation of Australian History from British settlement until the beginning of World War One. It examines the movement of peoples within Australia, including contact and colonisation experiences and the changes within Australia in connection with Federation.

Students consolidate their prior knowledge about Australia in the beginning of the 20th century and identify the social
discontent that had emerged during this period. Students then examine how at the end of this period, a buildup of tensions among Europe’s great power contributed to the outbreak of World War 1, the first global war and how this event has defined the course of subsequent Australian and worldwide history.
Students study the importance of World War 1 in order to make sense of today’s society, in particular, the way in which we pay tribute to fallen soldiers on ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day.
