Year 10 continues the studies commenced in year 9.
MODULE 6 STUDY OF THE RENAISSANCE
The All Rounder
This unit is focussed specifically on the cross-disciplinary influence of the Renaissance. Students will consider the ‘worldview’ of the well-rounded Renaissance man, and its influence on the formation of Western individualism. Students will learn about and understand the role of both men and women in shaping the arts, sciences, history and literature. Students conduct an individual research project based on one area of interest.
MODULE 7 WHO AM I?
Nature vs Nurture
In this unit the fundamental philosophical and clinical enquiry into the mind / body dichotomy in relation to forming who we are is explored in an interactive format. Students engage in the ‘nature versus nurture’ debate in the development of an individual’s personality. Topics include: Phrenology- criminal behaviour / forensic science /profiling and a discussion of the ethics of morality through a range of case studies. Students also examine the notion of femininity and its expected performance in contemporary society.
MODULE 8 Text Study
Sophie’s World
In this unit students study the book Sophie’s World by Jostein Gaarder to investigate the various philosophical questions the text sets up to engage the reader in critical thinking and reflection of their place in the world. The text acts as a stimulus to promote an independent research project. Students are asked to choose one of the issues in the text to expand upon in an individual project.
MODULE 9 Major Research
Self-Interest Project- All the World’s a Stage
In this final unit of work students propose a self-interest project on any topic of interest. Students learn about a wide range of research methodologies and engage in problem solving and critical thinking strategies to inform their research. Projects can be in any form chosen in negotiation with the teacher. The experience this module offers is of particular value to those students intending to undertake tertiary study, by providing an introduction to the issues of how a critical analysis project is structured and presented
